EEX: New Monthly Record Achieved In Butter Futures

In March 2017, the volume traded in EEX Butter Futures reached a new record. During the month a volume of 6,759 tonnes of goods equivalent were traded (equals 1,359 contracts). Thus the volume more than doubled year-on-year (March 2016: 3,020 tonnes, equals 604 contracts).

In total, the volumes on the dairy derivatives market increased by 48 percent in March. EEX’s offering for dairy risk management comprises futures in skimmed milk powder, butter and whey powder.

The first quarter of the year 2017 also represents a new quarterly record in dairy products with a traded volume of 30,840 tonnes of goods equivalent (6,168 contracts). EEX was able to increase the volume by 20% compared to the previous record quarter in the fourth quarter 2016 (25,725 tonnes, equals 5,145 contracts), strengthening its position as the leading derivatives exchange for dairy products in Europe.
