EEX Links Up Participants To Systems For Electricity Trading

Date 25/05/2000

In preparation for the launch of an integrated spot and derivatives market for electricity, EEX, the European Energy Exchange, is now in the process of technically linking up the first participants to its trading systems. A total of 22 market participants from Belgium, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Switzerland are already preparing for the launch of the spot market in August.

EEX is making the trading software and security technology needed for the technical link to the spot market available to the market participants. The trading participants feed it into their own trading terminals, enabling safe, fast and uncomplicated access to the Xetra system via the Internet.

Parallel to the technical link-up of the participants, training for trading on the EEX spot market will start on June 6 in Frankfurt. Prior to the launch of exchange trading in August, the market participants will then simulate trading with the Xetra system for the spot market beginning in July.
