EEX Group reports its August monthly volumes with the following developments:
- In August, traded volumes on the EEX Group Global Power markets rose by 17% Year-on-Year to 1,053.4 TWh.
- In August, the European Power Spot markets increased by 22%, reaching an overall volume of 88.3 TWh. Trading on the day-ahead market grew by 16% while intraday markets increased by 39%, with new records across various market areas.
- Trading volumes on the European Power Derivatives markets recorded a total of 733.3 TWh, a 25% increase Year-on-Year (August 2025: 587.8 TWh). The German Power Futures market increased by 17% YoY (+70 TWh) to 473.3 TWh. EEX saw strong growth across other European markets, including French Power Futures (+75% YoY), Swiss Power Futures (+81% YoY), Austrian Power Futures (+56% YoY) and Belgian Power Futures (+51% YoY). Trading in Irish Power Futures picked up +213% YoY, reaching a new monthly record.
- Nordic Power Futures maintained their exceptional growth trend with a 682% YoY increase. The EEX System Price Open Interest* has further increased (+107% YoY).
- The Japanese power derivatives market nearly doubled the monthly volume Year-on Year (+92%), reaching 17.6 TWh. By the end of August, year-to-date traded volume on this market (147 TWh) almost reached the level of the full year’s volume registered in 2025.
- Trading on the EEX Group Natural Gas markets totalled 576.7 TWh (-7% YoY).
- Within the natural gas segment, the Czech Gas Spot market performed particularly well (+62%). On the derivatives markets, volume in Italian PSV Gas Futures tripled to 9.8 TWh (+201% YoY). Strong growth was also recorded in Belgian ZTP Gas Futures (+149% YoY), UK NBP Gas Futures (+335% YoY) and Czech Gas Futures (CZ VTP) (+1,938% YoY).
- On the North American natural gas markets, operated by Nodal, volumes increased by 61% to 15.0 TWh.
- The Guarantees of Origin segment grew by 14% as against the previous year, supported by a 32% rise in EEX GO Futures to 4.3 TWh.
- EEX Group's Freight markets reported a 38% YoY increase to a total of 102,465 lots, driven by strong growth in Freight Futures trading.
