EEX: Further Steps Towards More Transparency In Power Plant Data

Date 31/01/2007

At the instance of European Energy Exchange (EEX) and of the electricity-generating companies involved in the transparency initiative in November 2006 (EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg, E.ON Energie AG, Electrabel Deutschland AG, RWE AG, TIWAG – Tiroler Wasserkraft AG, Vattenfall Europe AG) the information regarding power plant capacities on the internet site of the exchange will be extended further during the 1st quarter of 2007. In addition to the information on installed and available power plant capacities which is already published in an aggregated form and on the actual power generated by these, further information will supplement the data offered so far.

In addition to problems regarding the supply of data, changes in the available capacity (e.g. on account of scheduled restrictions of operation, such as cases of unavailability caused by cooling-water problems) will be announced via a “news board” in the future. The information will be published in the form of standard messages at the same time and updated for the respective day with the available capacities aggregated for each energy carrier at 10:00 am for the respective following day.

The installed capacity which is the net output of electricity of the power plants and which does not change on principle will not only be published in an aggregated form in the future; information for each power plant site will also be published on the web-site of EEX in addition.

The share of the power plant capacity published on the web site of EEX in the total installed capacity of the individual power plant operators will be shown with the help of graphs. Moreover, the published share in the total installed capacity for Germany and Austria, which together form one price zone, will also be shown. This is intended to illustrate the current coverage of the data provided on the web-site of EEX.

By now, ten companies from Germany and Austria have joined the transparency initiative which was launched in April 2006. It is considered a role model for other initiatives of this type, e.g. in France and the Benelux, and is based on a voluntary commitment by the reporting companies.
