Yesterday, the first trading transaction in Swiss Power Futures was registered on the European Energy Exchange (EEX) for clearing via European Commodity Clearing (ECC). The trade for delivery in the third quarter of 2014, was concluded between EDF Trading Limited and Gunvor International B.V., Geneva Branch, and matched by the broker, GFI Securities Limited. EEX has offered the trade registration of Swiss Power Futures since 1 October 2013. This service allows trading participants to register trading transactions concluded over the counter for clearing on the exchange. As a result, customers benefit from established standard processes and the security of settlement of their trades through the central counterparty, ECC.
In addition to Swiss power contracts, EEX and ECC offer trade registration services for Italian, Romanian and Scandinavian Power Futures. Furthermore, trade registration of corresponding off-exchange transactions is also possible for those products that are offered for trading in the EEX exchange order book. On the Power Derivatives Market, this includes futures for Germany/Austria, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
From 19 March 2014, participants will be able to register Spanish base load power futures (weeks, months, quarters and years) on EEX for clearing via ECC following the cooperation agreement with the Iberian OMIP and OMIClear closed in December 2013.
Furthermore, following the approval by the Exchange Council, EEX will introduce order book trading for the Italian power market on 7 April 2014, which will supplement the existing offer for Trade Registration on this market.
The European Energy Exchange (EEX) is the leading energy exchange in Europe. It develops, operates and connects secure, liquid and transparent markets for energy and related products on which power, natural gas, CO2emission allowances, coal and guarantees of origin are traded. Clearing and settlement of all trading transactions are provided by the clearing house European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC). EEX is a member of Eurex Group.
