Today, the second primary market auction of EU Emission Allowances (EUA) on behalf of Lithuania took place on the Spot Market of the European Energy Exchange in accordance with the agreement signed by the Ministry of the Environment of the Republic of Lithuania and EEX on 28 November 2011.
The auction volume of 850,000 EUA was sold as planned. The total bidding amount was 6,089,000 EUA. Thus, participants bidded more than 7-fold the determined volume. 6 companies took part in the auction in which the price was determined at EUR 7.46 per EUA. At the time of the auction, the reference price in secondary trading on the EEX Spot Market amounted to EUR 7.45 per EUA.
On behalf of the Lithuanian Ministry of the Environment a total of 1.7 million EUA was auctioned-off on the EEX Spot Market in two auctions. Moreover, the Ministry has extended the contract with EEX and awarded the exchange to organise the auction for an additional volume of 850,000 EUA. The auction date is not scheduled yet and will be published at least one month prior to the auctioning date.
Together, EEX and Eurex offer their participants a platform for trading in emission allowances. In the framework of this cooperation, which was launched in December 2007, Eurex participants can trade the derivatives products for emission allowances listed on EEX through their existing infrastructure and a simplified admission process.
