EEX European Energy Exchange: EEX Turnover In November Still At Record Levels - Second-Highest Result In Spot Market And Futures Market - First Italian Trading Participant

The European Energy Exchange EEX reported its turnover figures for the month of November on Tuesday. With a total of 5.15 million MWh traded in November, EEX has posted its second best turnover figures. The exchange reported a record turnover of 6.14 million MWh for October this year.

The spot market, with about one million MWh in volume, posted its second-best result since the launch of electricity trading at EEX in August 2000. Compared with the previous month's figure (870,278 MWh in October 2001), volume increased by about 15 percent. Compared with November last year, trading volume was more than 110 percent higher (November 2000: 466,443 MWh). The spot market total comprises 255,816 MWh traded in single hours and 745,824 MWh in blocks, 557,544 MWh in baseload blocks and 188,280 MWh in peakload blocks.

The futures market posted its second-best result to date with 4.15 million MWh traded in November (October: 5.28 million MWh). The futures market total comprises 1.27 million MWh traded in one-month futures and some 2.86 million MWh in 12-month futures.

As of December, EEX has admitted Enel Trade S.P.A. to trading on the spot market. Enel is now the first Italian participant to trade on the exchange. Thus, there are now 60 firms from eight countries trading on the integrated spot and futures market.
