This morning, the European Energy Exchange (EEX) carriedout the sixth primary market auction of European emission allowances (EUA) on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture & Innovation and the Dutch Minis- try of Infrastructure and the Environment.
The volume of 1 million EUA was auctioned off at the EEX Spot Market as planned. The total amount of bids was 2,080,000 EUAs. Thus, participants demanded more than2 times the auction volume. In the auction, in which 6 companies took part, the price was determined at EUR 6.59 per EUA. At the time of the auction, the reference price in secondary trading on the EEX Spot Market amounted to EUR 6.61 per EUA.
This has been the last Dutch primary auction on the EEX for EUA from the second trading period. In total, 8 million EUA have been auctioned off for the Netherlands on the EEX Spot Market in 2011 and in 2012.
“The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation and the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment are content with the results of the six auctions. They have been efficiently carried out by EEX and smoothly settled by the clearing house ECC”, says Mariette van Empel, Director Climate Policy and Air Quality at the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.
EEX and Eurex offer their participants a platform for trading in CO2 emission allowances. Within the framework of this cooperation, which was launched in December 2007, the Eurex participants can trade the CO2 derivatives products listed on EEX and participate in the EUA auctions through their existing infrastructure and a simplified admission process.
