EBRD appoints Pierre Heilbronn as Vice President, Policy and Partnerships 

Pierre Heilbronn is a senior French civil servant and currently serves as the deputy chief of staff for France's Minister of Finance and Public Accounts

Senior French official to take up post in November

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Pierre Heilbronn as Vice President, Policy and Partnerships. Reporting to the President, Mr. Heilbronn will also be a member of the Bank's Executive Committee. He will take up his post in November 2016. 

Pierre Heilbronn is a senior French civil servant and currently serves as the deputy chief of staff for France's Minister of Finance and Public Accounts. He has vast experience in policy-making in a domestic, European, and broader global context. For four years, he supervised the handling of most European dossiers managing the French department in charge of European coordination (SGAE) under the Prime Minister's authority. Notably, he led French engagement with the G20, the European Council and theEurogroup.

He was directly involved in the development policy agenda associated with the French presidency of COP21 and financial commitments to climate change. In 2009-10, he played a decisive role in helping to define, develop, and deliver assistance and support to Greece in response to the crisis. 

Earlier in his career Mr Heilbronn assisted in the definition and creation of the European External Action Service (EEAS), including mobilising the resources to support it. More recently, he worked onthe Juncker Plan. Acting as Head of Cabinet of the European Commissioner for External Relations and Management of Development Aid, he worked directly on the Neighbourhood policy and with the EBRD in developing its efforts in the southern and eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region.

Mr. Heilbronn's appointment followed a competitive selection process which attracted a large number of international applications. His nomination was approved by the EBRD Board of Directors.

The President of the EBRD, Sir Suma Chakrabarti, said : "Pierre will bring a wealth of experience to the role of Vice President, Policy and Partnerships. His strong network of European Union and other international relationships will help us to strengthen even further our partnerships with those who work alongside us."

The EBRD Vice President, Policy and Partnerships is responsible for leading the coordination of strategies, policies and related initiatives supporting the Bank's transition mandate. The Vice President is also responsible for the mobilisation of donor funds and for the Bank's engagement with key external stakeholders and partners.
