Dr Patrick Strange To Join NZX Board Of Directors

Date 29/04/2015

NZX is pleased to announce Dr Patrick Strange has accepted an invitation to join the NZX Board of Directors. Patrick’s appointment is effective 1 May 2015 and will be subject to confirmation by NZX shareholders at NZX’s Annual Meeting to be held on 21 May.

Patrick has spent 30 years working as a senior executive and Director in both private and listed companies, including more than six years as Chief Executive of Transpower, where he oversaw Transpower’s $3.8 billion of essential investment in the National Grid. Patrick is currently a Director of Mighty River Power, Chorus, Worksafe New Zealand, and of the joint board of Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy, Australia.

Patrick holds a doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Auckland. He spent 13 years in Europe and North America, working in a succession of senior management roles, including Chief Executive roles in computer companies, before returning to New Zealand where his roles included being Chief Executive of Vector.

NZX Chairman Andrew Harmos commented: “NZX’s board and management are delighted Patrick has accepted our invitation to join the board and we look forward to welcoming Patrick to NZX. I am confident Patrick will make a strong contribution to NZX given his experience across a variety of management and governance roles, and in the infrastructure industry.”

The Board has determined that Dr Strange is an independent director.

As previously signalled, Chairman Andrew Harmos and Hon. Simon Power will step down from the Board at the Annual Meeting in May. James Miller, currently NZX’s Deputy Chairman, will replace Mr Harmos as Chairman.
