“Dr. Moret brings a wealth of experience to our Board,” said Rob Feckner, President of the CalPERS Board of Administration. “His vast professional background, his keen understanding of investments, pension and health benefit administration will be an asset to our Board and to the members and employers we serve.”
Dr. Moret was Chief Operating Officer at the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) for more than 15 years. Prior to joining SCAG, he was Vice President of Cranston Securities Company, where he specialized in public finance and interacted extensively with finance directors, city managers, and other officials in state and local government.
In 1979, he was appointed by President Jimmy Carter and confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as the first Director of the Office of Minority Economic Impact in the Department of Energy. He also served as Commissioner of the Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Chief of Staff for Assemblyman Richard Alatorre, and Deputy Director for the United States Office of Minority Business Enterprise.
Dr. Moret has served on numerous boards, including the First Bank of Beverly Hills; Amervest, a fixed income asset management firm; The East Los Angeles Community Union, the largest and most successful community development corporation in America with over $400 million in assets; JT 2 Corporation, a third-party workers compensation service provider; and Lat-TV, a low-power television station serving the Hispanic community.
He earned his Doctor of Public Administration from the University of La Verne, his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, and his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Whittier College.
Dr. Moret is a licensed Professional Boxing Referee and has officiated in over 115 World Championship Fights.
