Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Indices October 2012 Performance Report

The Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Index was down 3.88% for the month of October. The Dow Jones-UBS Single Commodity Indices for lean hogs, natural gas and live cattle had the strongest gains with month-end returns of 6.14%, 2.06% and 0.98%, respectively. The three most significant downside performing single commodity indices were nickel, zinc and coffee, which ended the month down 12.51%, 11.67%, and 10.86% respectively.

Year to date, the Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Index is up 1.47% with the Dow Jones-UBS Soybean Meal Subindex posting the highest gain of 66.91% so far in 2012. Dow Jones-UBS Coffee Subindex has the most significant downside YTD performance, down 35.05%.

The Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Index is composed of 20 futures contracts on physical commodities and was introduced in 1999. The DJ-UBSCI family of indices includes nine sector subindices, multiple forward month indices; subindices for each individual commodity in the original DJ-UBSCI as well as for Brent crude, cocoa, feeder cattle, gas oil, lead, orange juice, platinum, soybean meal and tin.

Also available are Euro-, Yen-, Swiss Franc- and Pounds Sterling-denominated versions of the Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Index; Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Spot Index^SM; and total return versions of each of the excess return indices and subindices.
