Deutsche Börse Launches DAXglobal BRIC Index - Expanded Investor Focus Across Four Leading Emerging Markets

Date 06/06/2006

On Tuesday, Deutsche Börse launched the new DAXglobal BRIC index. This index enhances investor coverage of four leading emerging market countries, Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) currently in investor focus. BRIC countries include a significant proportion of the global population and world resources, and are expected to represent a significant proportion of growth over coming years. The index includes 10 companies per country. Through the BRIC index Deutsche Börse further expands its index coverage of international markets.

The index will include companies with a high market capitalization and minimum liquidity, defined as daily average trading exchange turnover exceeding €1 million. The weighting of individual companies will reflect market capitalization, with a maximum individual weight of 10 percent per company and 35 percent per country. The index composition will be examined on an annual basis. The index will be calculated from 9am to 10pm using stock prices from the respective primary exchanges in Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Based on historical analysis from September 2001 the DAXglobal BRIC Index has grown 200 percent with an average annual volatility of 22.2 percent. This represents a superior performance with lower volatility than developed markets.

The capital market development of the countries covered contributes to the liquidity of the individual components, thereby ensuring the quality of the broader index. The DAXglobal BRIC Index, as with all Deutsche Börse indices, is based on transparent Index guidelines. The DAXglobal BRIC can be used by issuers as the underlying for structured financial products, exchange traded funds and funds.

The new DAXglobal BRIC Index includes coverage of China through H-Shares and Red Chips. Brazilian, Russian and Indian stocks will be covered by American Depository Receipts (ADRs). The DAXglobal BRIC Index enables investor coverage of countries that were previously difficult to access. Alongside country typical energy companies a broader sector spectrum is also covered.

The BRIX Index is, following the DBIX Deutsche Börse India Index, the second member of the new Deutsche Börse DAXglobal index family and adds to its international coverage.
