Deutsche Börse: Clearstream's Global Securities Financing Services Show Strong Growth - Volumes Increase By 80% From 2002

Clearstream's entire Global Securities Financing services have experienced growth rates of 80% from last year with average outstandings for the month of August now at USD 125 billion and with intra-month peaks reaching upto USD 134 billion. Within these figures, Clearstream's Triparty Repo and Collateral Management Services have increased by 80% to an average for September of USD 66 billion with intra-month peaks of USD 75 billion. These figures even exceed last year's growth rates of 58%.

Clearstream's Global Securities Financing comprises Securities Lending Services and Collateral Management Services. Their common objective is to optimise market liquidity and settlement efficiency while reducing risk.

"This sector is one of the most demanding and evolving areas in the securities processing industry and Clearstream continues to deliver superior service levels year after year. These volume figures represent a very strong achievement and it reflects the high quality level of service that we continuously offer to the market and the growing importance of the European repo marketplace," said Saheed Awan, Head of Product Management at Clearstream speaking at Clearstream's 8th annual Global Securities Financing Summit in Luxembourg today. This event has become the largest gathering in Europe of central bankers, treasury professionals from commercial banks, repo traders and securities lending specialists. Over 450 participants from more than 30 countries are gathering in Luxembourg to hear the world's leading experts covering themes such as the key drivers and developments for securities financing and the efficient management of liquidity and collateral.

Volker Potthoff, Managing Director Banking & Custody Business opened the conference stating, "Clearstream has built a reputation for innovation and leadership in this important growth sector and earlier this year, Clearstream received the award of 'top rated provider' for the 2nd year running from a survey completed by the Global Custodian magazine for the area called Tri-party Securities Financing. Deutsche Börse Group recognises the need for collaterialisation in the fixed income markets and will focus its products and services according to the market needs for risk and collateral management."
