Deutsche Börse Clearing Breaks Through Sound Barrier - Over 5 Trillion Euros In Custody Volume In October

Date 11/11/1999

Custody volume at Deutsche Börse Clearing exceeded five trillion euros for the first time. At the beginning of November, Deutsche Börse Clearing held securities in deposit with a market value totalling 5.1trillion euros, about 20 percent more than at the end of last year. Deutsche Börse Clearing attributes the increase in volume to the favorable market trend and the overall higher level of interest in securities. Due not least of all to the high custody volume and the resulting economies of scale, Clearing is now the price leader Europe-wide in securities clearing and settlement. The custody volume will rise further after Deutsche Börse Clearing merges with the international central securities depository Cedel. The new European Clearing House will administer securities worth a total of more than seven trillion euros, making it Europe's largest clearing organization.
