Deutsche Börse And Eurex - Eurex To Launch Trading In Options On U.S. Equities - Launch Date Is September 24 - Eurex Names 10 Stock Options For The New U.S. Segment - Trading In U.S. Shares On Xetra In September

Date 30/07/2001

Eurex, the international derivatives market, will start trading U.S. stock options in euros on September 24, 2001. In addition to the already announced options on Cisco Systems, IBM, Intel and Microsoft, Eurex will offer options on the shares of AOL Time Warner, Citigroup, EMC, General Electric, Oracle and Sun Microsystems. The new U.S. segment is part of the Global Markets Concept that Eurex is setting up on a joint basis with Deutsche Börse. Trading in U.S. stocks on Xetra in September will already provide the liquid basis for derivatives trading before the stock options are launched.

With the introduction of options on the 10 most liquid U.S. stocks, Eurex is extending its rapidly growing business in equity options to the world's biggest stock market. Eurex will thus be offering market participants trading and investment strategies in derivatives on U.S. securities for the first time in the European time zone. Eurex market makers will provide for underlying liquidity in the U.S. stock options. Eurex is Europe's leading provider for equity derivatives. The product portfolio offers options on a large number of the most liquid European equities including all German and Swiss blue chips as well as further options on MDAX and Neuer Markt stocks. Five partners are bundling their competencies with the Global Markets Concept: Deutsche Börse, Eurex, Eurex Clearing, Dow Jones Indexes and Clearstream International. For investors, the main advantages of the new joint concept are the expanded range of products, the high liquidity and the low cost for clearing and settlement, as well as the calculation of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) until 3:30 p.m. (CEST) on the basis of Xetra prices. The U.S. segment is the first building block in the Global Markets Concept, which the partners want to expand with further segments along the same lines as the Dow Jones STOXX 50 and Dow Jones Euro STOXX 50 indexes as well as for the Asia-Pacific region.

In the cash market, the U.S. segment takes in all of the some 200 U.S. stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 100, Nasdaq 100 and Dow Jones Global Titans 50, the so-called Xetra US Stars. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley will function as U.S. Market Experts making markets in US stocks and provide liquidity. US Market Experts quote continuously binding bid and ask prices with a minimum of 50,000 euros per quote. Baader Wertpapierhandelsbank AG, Finacor Rabe AG and Wertpapierhandelsbank Seydler AG with their experience as lead brokers as well as in the German market will function in this capacity as well.
