Deutsche Börse Adjusts Criteria For The Start Of Index Calculation

Date 04/10/2004

Deutsche Börse has adjusted the criteria it uses to calculate its equity indices at the start of trading. As of October 18, Deutsche Börse will calculate its equity indices only once a minimum number of current prices are available for each index. The new criteria will mean the opening balance of the indices better represents the current situation on the markets, making the Deutsche Börse indices more attractive for issuers of certificates and warrants and for those investing in these products. The new criteria will apply for the DAX®, MDAX®, TecDAX®, and SDAX® indices.

The initial index level of the DAX index will now be calculated provided that current prices are available for at least 20 stocks from the index. Up until now, Deutsche Börse started its calculations at 9.00 am CET every day, irrespective of the number of available index stock prices. In the event that there were no current prices available, the price from the previous day would be factored into the index calculation. In the case of the MDAX, the new criteria sets a threshold of 35 stocks, the TecDAX along with the DAX have 20, and the SDAX has 35.
