Deutsche Börse: 392 Billion Euros In Turnover On German Stock Exchanges In February

Based on the total turnover statistics, a total volume of €391,7 billion was traded on all German stock exchanges in February 2006 – a rise of 32 percent year-on-year (February 2005: €297 billion). This total included €350.1 billion in equities, warrants and exchange traded funds, as well as €41.6 billion in fixed-income securities.

Order book statistics, which are based on single counting of all transactions in the order book of Xetra and broker-supported trading on the floor, show that the German stock exchanges generated an equities turnover of €132.8 billion in February (February 2005: €92.8 billion). German equities accounted for €122.5 billion of this total, with foreign equities comprising €10.3 billion.

In February, 97 percent of transactions with German equities were executed on Xetra and on the floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (FWB). In foreign equities, 76 percent were traded on Xetra and the floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. 8.4 million transactions were executed on Xetra in February – 29 percent more year-on-year (February 2005: 6.5 million).

According to the Xetra liquidity measure (XLM), Deutsche Bank was the most liquid DAX® blue chip in February with 4 bp for an order volume of €100,000. Degussa was the most liquid MDAX® stock with 15 bp. The most liquid equity-based ETF was the DAXEX with 3 bp. The most liquid foreign stock was Royal Dutch with 10 bp. XLM is a measure of liquidity in electronic securities trading based on the implicit transaction costs and is calculated for securities in continuous trading in basis points (1 bp = 0.01 percent) for a roundtrip in the Xetra order book.

Deutsche Bank was the strongest DAX stock on Xetra in February at €7.6 billion. Puma was the top MDAX stock at €856.4 million, while Vivacon led the SDAX® stock at €102 million and Solarworld headed the TecDAX® at €1.1 billion. At €2.7 billion euros, the DAXEX was once again the exchange traded fund with the largest turnover.
