Deutsche Börse: 342 Billion Euros In Turnover On The German Stock Exchanges In November

A total of 342.1 billion euros in volume was traded on the German stock exchanges in November, about 9 percent higher than the previous month's level (October: 315 billion euros). The November total comprises 248.7 billion euros in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds as well as 93.4 billion euros in fixed-income securities.

The order-book statistics, which are based on single counting of all transactions in the order book of Xetra and in broker-supported trading on the floor, show that a total volume of 93 billion euros was traded in equities on the German stock exchanges in November, about 4 percent higher than the previous month's level (October: 89.8 billion euros). Of this total, about 86.4 billion euros were traded in German equities, and about 6.6 billion euros in foreign equities. In the domestic equities, some 91 percent of the volume was traded through Xetra, another 6 percent in trading on the floor of the Frankfurt stock exchange (FWB Frankfurter Wertpapierbörse). In the international equities, about 88 percent of the total volume was traded on Xetra and the Frankfurt trading floor.

As in the record month of October, roughly 47 percent of all turnover in the SDAX (small-cap quality index) stocks was posted on Xetra in November. Xetra now has a market share of about 95 percent in the DAX blue chips, some 79 percent of the MDAX volume and and about 63 percent of the volume traded in Neuer Markt stocks.

Siemens was the most active DAX blue chip in November with a volume of some 11.1 billion euros traded in its shares. Altana was the leading MDAX (mid-cap DAX) stock, with 373.4 million euros in shares traded. Aixtron topped the list of Neuer Markt stocks with turnover of 316.1 million euros in its shares. In the SMAX (small-cap quality) segment, Gildemeister ranked first with volume of 11.4 million euros in shares traded. The highest-volume exchange-traded fund in November was the DAX EX with 1.3 billion euros in turnover. Cisco Systems was the leading stock in the Xetra US Stars segment, with volume of 37 millon euros traded in its shares.
