Deutsche Boerse Group: Total Turnover Of €245 Billion On German Stock Exchanges In September

According to aggregate statistics, a total volume of over €245 billion was traded on the German stock exchanges in September. This represents an 8 percent rise in turnovers on the previous month (€226 billion). This total includes €182 billion in equities, warrants, and exchange-traded funds, and more than €63 billion in fixed-income securities.

Order book statistics, which are based on a single counting of all transactions in the Xetra order book and of broker-supported floor trading, show that the German stock exchanges generated an equities turnover of €72.4 billion in September, an increase of approximately 5 percent on last month. €68.4 billion of this total relates to trading in German equities, while foreign equities accounted for €4 billion.

Around 98 percent of trading in German equities in September was conducted on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange - on Xetra, and the floor. 82 percent of foreign equities were traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. 5.1 million trades were executed on Xetra in September.

According to the Xetra liquidity measure (XLM), Siemens AG was the most liquid equity on the DAX® in September, at 5 bp for an order of €100,000. Puma was the most liquid MDAX® stock at 19 bp. The most liquid equity-based exchange traded fund was the DAX EX at 5 bp. The most liquid foreign stock was Royal Dutch at 8 bp. XLM is a measure of liquidity in electronic securities trading based on implicit transaction costs, and is calculated in basis points (1 bp = 0.01 percent) for every security in continuous trading, for a roundtrip in the Xetra order book.

Siemens was the most traded DAX blue chip on Xetra in September at €6.2 billion. Puma was the top-traded stock on the MDAX at €625 million. Deutsche Euroshop led the SDAX® with €9.2 million, and T-Online topped the TecDAX® with €394 million. At €752.9 million, the DAXEX was once again the exchange-traded fund with the largest turnover.
