Deutsche Börse Updates Composition Of Equity Indexes - Changes In MDAX, SDAX And NEMAX 50 - SDAX Will Be Reduced To 50 Stocks On June 24, 2002

Date 07/08/2001

On Tuesday, Deutsche Börse decided on changes in the MDAX, SDAX and NEMAX 50 indexes, to become effective on September 24, as part of its regular review of the composition of its equity indexes. Moreover, effective June 24, 2002, Deutsche Börse will reduce the number of companies in the SDAX (small-cap quality index) to 50, as Deutsche Börse reported on Tuesday.

The following companies will be newly included in the MDAX: BERU AG, Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services and Salzgitter AG; they replace VCL Film+Medien AG, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG and SPAR Handels-AG. VCL ranks 196th in the criterion of market capitalization, well over the required rank of 110. Porsche and Spar are being taken out of the MDAX because the two companies do not publish quarterly reports, which Deutsche Börse requires in the interest of transparency for investors. Fraport will report on the fourth quarter within the framework of its annual report for 2001, and will submit quarterly reports as of the first quarter of 2002.

In the interest of index continuity, the decision whether AGIV AG and Bankgesellschaft Berlin AG will remain in the MDAX will be made in conjunction with an unscheduled index review on 7 November, 2001. The block ownership in the case of both companies currently exceeds the limit of 80 percent that will apply as of September. Although the two companies do not meet the criteria for inclusion in the MDAX at present, they have both announced measures. If the block ownership exceeds 80 percent at the review in November the companies will be deleted from the index on December 27.

Based on the criteria of stock-exchange turnover and market capitalization, the following companies will be included in the SDAX: Hach AG, InnoTec TSS AG, MATERNUS-Kliniken AG, VCL Film+Medien AG and WIGE MEDIA AG. These companies are replacing AHAG Wertpapierhandelsbank AG and Uzin Utz AG, which are leaving the SMAX segment; MVV Energie AG, which has block ownership in excess of 80 percent; as well as BERU AG and Salzgitter AG, which are moving into the MDAX.

For the SDAX companies Bausch+Linnemann AG and Grammer AG, which have block ownership of more than 80 percent, Deutsche Börse will follow the same procedure as for AGIV and Bankgesellschaft Berlin in the MDAX; a final decision will be made in November and, if necessary, the companies will be deleted from the SDAX as of December 27.

The following companies will be included in the Nemax 50 based on the criteria of stock-exchange turnover and market capitalization: AT&S Austria Technolgie & System AG , GPC Biotech AG and Suess MircoTec AG. They take the place of Brokat AG, Kinowelt Medien AG and Telegate AG, which Deutsche Börse is deleting from the index because they no longer rank among the top 60 companies in terms of stock-exchange turnover and/or market capitalization.

Deutsche Börse has decided to reduce the number of companies in the SDAX as the blue-chip index for the SMAX quality segment from the current 100 to 50 equities to optimize tradeability. This change is to be implemented at the same time as the introduction of the index weighting based on free float as of June 24, 2002. The number of companies in the NEMAX 50, however, will remain unchanged in view of its acceptance as an underlying instrument for derivative products.
