Deutsche Börse Expands European Segment - "Xetra European Stars" Launch On February 11 - Eurex Trading In International Equity Options Increases 48%

Date 06/02/2002

Deutsche Börse is further expanding its segment for European equities on Xetra in the framework of its Global Markets Concept to include the 17 French equities as well as the Belgian and the Finnish equity in the Dow Jones Euro STOXX 50 index. Starting February 11, they will round out the "Xetra European Stars" segment, in which the seven Dutch equities in the Dow Jones Euro STOXX 50 index are already tradable. For the second half of 2002, a further extension of the Xetra European Stars has been planned to include Italian equities in the European benchmark index.

Timber Hill (Europe) AG, MWB Wertpapierhandelshaus AG and Wolfgang Steubing AG will be active as Market Experts in the French shares. Market Experts quote binding bid and ask prices on a continuous basis with a minimum value of 50,000 euros per quote. The smallest order size (round lot) in Xetra European Stars is one share. Clearstream Banking will handle clearing and settlement of the trades.

Eurex, the world's leading derivatives market, offers market participants a total of 107 international equity options from seven different countries. In addition to options on German and Swiss equities, Eurex offers options on Finnish, Dutch, Italian, French and US equities. A total of some 133 million contracts was traded in the options on individual equities in 2001, 48 percent higher than the number traded in 2000. Eurex offers equity options on all Dutch and Finnish companies in the Euro STOXX 50, as well as on eight French companies in this index. All options at Eurex are supported by professional market-making, which ensures the necessary underlying liquidity in the products.

Following the U.S. segment "Xetra US Stars", the European segment is the second segment that Deutsche Börse, Eurex and Clearstream Banking have established within the framework of the Global Markets Concept. Xetra US Stars was successfully launched at the end of September last year and comprises the some 200 U.S. stocks in the indices Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 100, Nasdaq 100 and Global Titans 50.
