Derivatives Trading On Euronext.liffe Up 13% In 2002 - Euronext.liffe Confirmed As The World's Second Largest Derivatives Exchange

Euronext.liffe, the derivatives business of Euronext, traded a record 697 million futures and options contracts in 2002, up 13% on 2001, representing an underlying value of €183 trillion, up 15% on 2001. The total number of contracts traded and value traded makes Euronext.liffe the world's second largest derivatives exchange.

Euronext.liffe's equity products traded 491 million contracts in 2002, up 16% on the previous year, with individual equity options trading 324 million contracts, up 32% on 2001. Short term interest rate products traded 188 million contracts in 2002, an increase of 16% on the previous year. Commodity products traded a record year trading 5.6 million contracts up 21% on 2001.

During December 2002 Euronext.liffe traded 44 million contracts, up 9% on December 2001. Open interest stood at 87,235,358 contracts on 31 December 2002.
