The cash market turnover amounted to 4 014 million zloty and was 5.1% lower compared to November. On the futures market turnover totalled 5 683 million zloty, 5.6% less than in the previous month.

On December 11, 2002, 5-year fixed-rate Treasury bonds maturing December 2, 2007 (ticker symbol SP1207), with nominal value of 100 zloty made their debut on the Exchange. On December 11, 2002, the Exchange Supervisory Board admitted to the Exchange trading ordinary bearer shares of series A and B, as well as allotment certificates concerning series B of Zaklady Miesne DUDA S.A (a meat company). The company has been on the market since 1990. Its most important products are the pork products. For ten years, the company has been systematically strengthening its market position. Today ZM Duda S.A. is in the forefront of the Polish meat sector.
On December 13, 2002, the Exchange Management Board admitted to trading on the Exchange the first issue of investment certificates of CA IB Fundusz Inwestycyjny Mieszany Pro Lokata (mixed investment fund).
On December 16, 2002, zero-coupon Treasury bonds maturing December 12, 2004 (ticker symbol OK1204), with nominal value of 1 000 zloty were introduced to trading.
On December 20, 2002, allotment certificates for series B of Zaklady Miesne DUDA S.A. debuted on the Exchange in the single-price auction system. During the first session, 5 219 allotment certificates were traded, with turnover value totalling 211 thousand zloty.
On December 23, 2002, KB Pieniadz Plus Fundusz Inwestycyjny Zamkniety (closed-end investment fund) filed an application for the admission to trading of its investment certificates of series A (from 600,000 to 1,200,000 certificates).
On December 30, 2002, ING Fundusz Inwestycyjny Zamkniety Lokata Plus (closed-end investment fund) filed an application the admission to trading of its investment certificates (1,602,662 certificates).
In December 2002, further to the Exchange Rules listed companies published their statements on their intentions and actions as far as observance of corporate governance is concerned. These statements are available (in Polish) of the Exchange's web site www.wse.com.pl under Corporate Governance.
On December 11, 2002, the results of the Stock Market Game run by Rzeczpospolita (a Polish daily) and sponsored by the Warsaw Stock Exchange were announced. The ten best virtual investors were presented cheques, the winner receiving one for 50,000 zloty. The game lasted from September until November 2002. During its course, the virtual amount of 100,000 zloty was to be invested in securities listed on the Exchange. More than 11,000 people participated in the game. The winner showed a rate of return close to 200%, while in the same period the WIG20 index rose by 17%.
Changes in the WSE indices
Following the trading session on December 11, 2002, GPRD Skanska was removed from the WIG index and sub-index WIG-Construction. This was due to the closing of the so-called summons - invitation to sell GPRD Skanska stock announced by Exbud Skanska and the fact that it significantly exceeded the 95% threshold of ownership in the company.
Following the trading session on December 20, 2002, quarterly adjustments to the WIG20 and MIDWIG indices were carried out. Because of this operation, OPTIMUS was replaced in the WIG20 index portfolio by DEBICA. GROCLIN, LPP and OPTIMUS stock replenished the MIDWIG index portfolio. Following the trading session of December 20, 2002, a quarterly revision of the WIG, TechWIG, WIRR and WIG sub-indices portfolios took place. Following the revision, the WIG portfolio covers 99% of the market capitalisation and the WIRR index 1%.
Companies covered by these indices must meet also the following two conditions: over 5% free float and trading activity during at least one-third of the last 60 trading sessions. Because of the diversification requirement concerning the WIG index portfolio, participation of TPSA, PEKAO, PKNORLEN in the index was trimmed down to 10%; the total share of banking sector in the index portfolio was reduced to 30%.
Following the December 2002 revision, 77 companies participate in the WIG index and 77 in the WIRR index.
Following the TechWIG portfolio revision, EMAX entered the index portfolio. Consequently, 22 companies participate in the index. Further to the TechWIG index methodology, participation of the largest companies: TPSA, PROKOM, COMPUTERLAND and SOFTBANK in the index was trimmed down to 15%.
