In December the transactions in share products was up 17.6% year-on-year, amounting to 10,118,678 with a daily average of 506,580. The total number of transactions in shares in 2002 amounted to 129,192,044 an increase of 13% compared with 2001. The daily average has also increased from 12% compared with the previous year, reaching 507,095 transactions per day in 2002.
Against a background of bad market conditions, the total turnover in shares through Euronext's electronic order book amounted to €1,570 billion in 2002, down by 7.6%, and the daily average turnover in shares is down 8.3%.
Euronext maintains its leading position on trackers (ETF) for the whole year in terms of volume traded, with an average daily turnover of €129 million in 2002 up 94.4% on 2001, and representing a market share of 46.6%. The total number of transactions on trackers in 2002, of 362,646, is up 106.2% on the previous year.
The Euronext 100 blue chip index and the Next 150 index were respectively down by 8.4% and 5.1% on November 2002.
As of 31 December 2002, the market capitalisation of the 1,484 companies listed on Euronext markets totalled €1,477 billion.
