Total trading volume at the Dalian Commodity Exchange, China's leading agricultural and plastics exchange, for the month of October was 84,707,320 contracts, an increase of 75% compared to October 2009. Average daily volume for this period was 5.29 million contracts. Trading turnover totaled CNY 4.404 trillion, an increase of 111.01% over October 2009.
Trading volumes in most DCE contracts rose significantly year-on-year in October: agricultural commodity volume averaged 4.66 million contracts per day, accounting for 88% of trading volume. Average plastics volume was 629,854 contracts per day, accounting for 12% of trading volume.
Open interest for all DCE products at the end of October was 4,656,578 contracts, an increase of 24.39% over last month.
According to data from the China Futures Industry Association, total nationwide trading volume for October nearly reached 286 million contracts worth CNY 29.85 trillion, increases of 68.6% and 218.83% respectively compared to October 2009.
