Dalian Commodity Exchange: 2023 China Petrochemical Industry (Derivatives) Conference Was Held Successfully In Hangzhou on April 7

Date 10/04/2023

The 2023 China Petrochemical Industry (Derivatives) Conference (CPIC), co-sponsored by Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) and China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF)  was held successfully in Hangzhou on April 7. More than 500 representatives from industry associations, industrial enterprises and financial institutions attended conference on site.

In recent years, global energy and commodity prices have become increasingly volatile due to multiple factors including geopolitical conflicts, recurring COVID-19 pandemic, and the mismatch between supply and demand recovery. The price fluctuations have posed severe challenges to the production and operation of the petrochemical industry worldwide. To address these challenges, DCE has listed four options of PVC, LLDPE, PP, and LPG. In response to the needs of the petrochemical industry, DCE has implemented the principle of “one policy for one product” (a tailored approach) to optimize existing contracts and rules. Meanwhile, DCE has been promoting the implementation of the group-based PVC delivery system, and continued to expand the delivery regions of ethenylbenzene futures, so as to constantly improve the quality and efficiency of market operations. In addition, DCE is speeding up the process of launching ethylene glycol and ethenylbenzene options and developing benzene futures and other derivatives. By doing so, DCE hopes to contribute to the high-quality development of the petrochemical industry and the building of China’s petrochemical derivatives market system.

The conference focused on the theme of “Embark on a New Journey to Create a New Chapter in Integrating Industry and Finance”. It featured a main forum, as well as three parallel sessions on synthetic resins, aromatics, and oil refining products. The conference brought together authoritative figures and senior experts from industry associations, industrial enterprises, financial institutions, and other related fields to address various hot topics, such as changes in the macroeconomics, the transformation and upgrading of the industry under the “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” policy, and the application of derivative instruments, and introduced new models of derivatives in serving petrochemical industry. In terms of topics and speakers, the event focused on integrating risk management practical operations with the development pathway of the petrochemical industry against the backdrop of the new expectations of domestic economic recovery, new trends in green growth, and the new era of expanding production capacity. By sharing professional insights and practical solutions of the futures companies and the bases that integrate industry and finance, the event aimed to help the petrochemical companies address their problems in actual production, operation, and risk management.

The “China Petrochemical Industry (Derivatives) Conference”, previously known as the “China Plastics Industry Conference”, was co-founded by DCE and the CPCIF in 2008. Since then, it has been successfully held for 15 sessions .
