Cyprus Stock Exchange Market Statistics January 2000

The General Price Index closed at the end of January at 566.36 points. The total market capitalisation (shares) reached CYP 10,038 billion from CYP 12,135 billion the previous month registering a decrease of 17.25%. According to this months results the Banking sector accounted for 60.16% of the total market capitalisation, the Other Companies sector 18.00%, and the Tourism sector 7.37%. The Trading sector, the Manufacturing sector, the Approved Investment Companies and the insurance sector accounted for 4.89%, 3.91%, 3.09% and 2.58% respectively of the total market capitalisation. The total market capitalisation including Corporate and Government bonds reached CYP 11,727 billion compared to CYP 14,039 billion the previous month, registering a decrease of 16.47%. The total turnover during the month in review reached CYP 408 million with an average of CYP 21 million per trading session. The Banking sector contributed 31.31% of the total value traded, which was the highest, whereas Government Bonds had the lowest contribution with 0.04%. Investors primarily focused their interest on the shares of the Bank of Cyprus (Holdings) Ltd. and the Louis Cruise Lines Ltd. with 12.46% and 9,71% respectively.
