Copenhagen Stock Exchange: Very Large Increase In Equity Trading During Danish Summer Holidays

In July, the value of trading on the equity market was DKK 73.0 billion in market prices, only exceeded by the turnover for March 2000 of DKK 85.1 billion. In average, the turnover for July amounted to an average of DKK 3.5 billion per trading day, an increase of no less than 159 per cent compared to the same month of last year and 25 per cent more than in June.

The value of industrial shares showed an increase of 70 per cent to DKK 44.6 billion compared to June. As the only sector Commerce and services had to realise a fall in turnover and was traded for DKK 12.5 billion in total a fall of 21 per cent compared to June.

KFX shares reached a turnover of DKK 50.9 billion, equivalent to 70 per cent of the turnover for July.

The most active share was GN Store Nord which at DKK 10.1 billion almost doubled its turnover compared to June. Novo Nordisk B increased by 63 per cent and was traded for almost DKK 10.0 billion, which in terms of turnover ranked second. Tele Danmark came in third with just under DKK 7.0 billion, equivalent to an increase of 39 per cent compared to June.

In July, prices reached an all-time high and the KFX Index set the 21st record of the year on 20 July at 311.74. The KFX Index closed June at 305.61; a rise of 6.3 per cent and 44.7 per cent compared to the end of June and end of July 1999. On 20 July, the KF mX Index at 1,203.23 also reached its all-time high and closed end of July at 1,188.79; a rise of 3.0 per cent and 30.9 per cent on a monthly/annual basis.

Six KFX shares made the list of the 25 star performers. NKT Holdning was in front with a plus of 49.7 per cent above the average for the month. Followed by Carlsberg B (+25.8 per cent), H. Lundbeck (+25.2 per cent), GN Store Nord (+23.4 per cent), Vestas Wind Systems (+20.2 per cent) and Novo Nordisk B with an increase in market value of 16.8 pct.
