Copenhagen Stock Exchange Turnover In February On Level With The Monthly Average In The Second Half Of 2001

The turnover in shares and unit trusts in February 2002 amounted to DKK 31.9 billion in market value, which corresponds to the average monthly level in the second half of 2001. The average daily value of trading was DKK 1.6 billion, a decline of 13 per cent compared with January 2002.

Collectively, the 20 KFX shares achieved a turnover of DKK 27.2 billion in February 2002, corresponding to 85 per cent of the total turnover.

Eight shares had a trading volume of more than DKK 1 billion in February. Novo Nordisk B came first with a turnover of DKK 5.5 billion followed by TDC with DKK 4 billion. Danske Bank was the third most actively traded share with DKK 3.6 billion.

The KFX Index gained 3.7 per cent over the month to 272.81 at end-February. Compared with the corresponding month the year before, this is a decline of just under 14 per cent. The KVX Index climbed 2.4 per cent in relation to end-January 2002, however, compared with February 2001, the index has dropped by 37.5 per cent.

The bond trading volume in February was DKK 339.1 billion in market value, which equals an average daily trading volume of DKK 17.0 billion, a decline of 37 per cent compared with January 2002 and of 18 per cent compared with February 2001.

The most traded bond group in February was government bonds with a turnover of DKK 131.9 billion in market value, which is a drop of 40 per cent on the month before. The turnover in standard mortgage credit fell by 42 per cent to DKK 175.0 billion.

The average true yield for bonds fell by 5 basis points (bp) over the month to 5.50 per cent at end-February. Government bonds fell by 4 bp to 4.67 per cent, and the yield on standard mortgage credit fell by 6 bp to 6.02 per cent at end-February.

In February, loans of a nominal DKK 36.5 billion were supplied. In February, a new government loan was listed, 4% government 2008 of just under DKK 7.0 billion, and the total issues in bonds amounted to DKK 29.5 billion. Mortgage credit bonds were issued of a value of DKK 10.8 billion, primarily in 6% series with expiry in 2032. Moreover, treasury bills were issued to an amount of DKK 12.3 billion.

The derivatives turnover in February 2002 totalled an average 2,049 contracts per day, which is broadly unchanged compared with January 2002.
