Copenhagen Stock Exchange: The Equity Market Opened 2001 With Handsome Performance

In January 2001, equity trading amounted to DKK 80.4 billion, up from DKK 57.9 billion in January last year. The value of average daily trading amounted to DKK 3.7 billion, a 33 per cent rise on January 2000, and 3 per cent higher than in December 2000.

The KFX shares reached a total turnover of DKK 61.9 billion in January and they accounted for 77 per cent of the total turnover. Tele Danmark was the most actively traded share of the month with a turnover of DKK 11.1 billion. Then followed Novo Nordisk B with DKK 10.2 billion and Danske Bank with a turnover of DKK 7.6 billion.

The KFX Index closed the month at 347.56, up 11 per cent over the month and up 39 per cent on end of January 2000.

The KVX Index comprising growth companies gained 30 per cent in January after a period influenced by negative trends. The KFMX Index comprising small and medium-sized companies gained almost 10 per cent in January.

In January 2001, bond trading amounted to DKK 578 billion in market value, a rise of 5 per cent on December 2000 and a rise of 16 per cent on January 2000. The average daily value of trading amounted to DKK 26 billion.

The average true yield fell by 7 basis points over the month to 5.95 per cent at the end of January 2001.
