Copenhagen Stock Exchange: Soaring Share Prices Make Investors DKK 156 Billion Richer In 2003

Date 30/12/2003

During the course of 2003 the prices on the Danish equity market surged. At 12.00 today on the last trading day of the year, the KFX Index, which comprises the most actively traded shares, had gained 22 per cent since end-2002. The positive development in 2003 thus reverses two years of dropping share prices.

When the market closed yesterday, the listed companies' market value totalled DKK 720 billion, which means that the Danish investors have grown DKK 156 billion richer in 2003.

The large international share indices also progressed fairly. The steep price increases came after the years 2001 and 2002 when all share indices nose-dived. The steepest price increase among the exchanges in the NOREX Alliance was to be found on the Norwegian market, and among the indices that we compare ourselves with Nasdaq - the American technology exchange - progressed the most, namely by 50 per cent.
