Copenhagen Stock Exchange Invites The Public To Comment On A Proposal For An Alternative Marketplace

Date 13/12/2004

The Copenhagen Stock Exchange has seen an interest from a number of different sides – companies, investment banks and investors – in a marketplace where small companies can raise capital, company owners can realise part of the company’s value or conduct a generational change.

Therefore, the Exchange has looked into the possibilities of establishing a marketplace for small companies and has drawn up a proposal for a specific concept. The Copenhagen Stock Exchange now invites the public to comment on this proposal.

The purpose of establishing an alternative marketplace for small companies with a market value of up to DKK 400-500 million is:

  • to grant small companies access to risk capital
  • to facilitate a generational change in small companies
  • to strengthen small companies by affiliating them to a brand under the auspices of the Copenhagen Stock Exchange
  • to ensure investors orderly conditions for the buying and selling of shares in small companies
  • to grant private investors access to investment in small companies which today are out of reach for most investors
  • to generate a new business opportunity for market players on the capital market at the lowest possible cost by using the Exchange’s existing infrastructure.
President and CEO Hans-Ole Jochumsen said: ”The Copenhagen Stock Exchange looks forward to receiving many comments so that we may form the broadest and best basis for deciding whether to establish an alternative marketplace under the auspices of the Copenhagen Stock Exchange and, if so, how to do this. However, an alternative marketplace for small companies cannot open until the 2nd half of 2005 at the earliest.”

In order for your comments to be taken into consideration, you must send them in writing to the Copenhagen Stock Exchange, attn. Senior Adviser Carsten Borring, or to the e-mail address cbo@cse.dk not later than Monday 24 January 2005.
