Copenhagen Stock Exchange: Boost In Share And Bond Trading In May

The share trading volume in May amounted to DKK 35.1 billion, which is the highest turnover over the past 12 months. The value of average daily trading came to just under DKK 1.8 billion, 34 per cent more than the month before. The number of trades rose by 11 per cent on April 2003, and a total of 7,200 trades were thus effected per day.

The most actively traded share was Novo Nordisk with a turnover of DKK 5.1 billion and Danske Trælast came nearest with DKK 4.0 billion, which may primarily be ascribed to the acquisition offer on the company's shares. The third most active share was Danske Bank with DKK 3.8 billion, followed by TDC with a turnover of DKK 3.4 billion.

In May, the KFX Index gained 1.0 per cent, and over the first five months of the year it has increased by 4.1 per cent. The new MidCap+ and SmallCap+ indices rose by 8.1 per cent and 7.4 per cent, respectively. Since the turn of the year, MidCap+ has progressed by 16.1 per cent and SmallCap+ by 20.7 per cent.

In May, turnover in the listed investment funds fell from DKK 1.9 billion in April to DKK 1.7 billion. On the XtraMarked the turnover rose to DKK 6.2 billion against DKK 2.7 billion in April. This steep rise is primarily attributable to the fact that two major BankInvest funds were admitted to the XtraMarked.

The activity on the FUTOP market was on level with April 2003. A total of 65,534 contracts were traded distributed on 53,706 on the KFX Index and 11,828 on single shares. The average daily trading volume totalled 3,277 contracts. Compared with May 2002 the turnover in futures has increased by 42 per cent, and the turnover in options has doubled.

Bond trading totalled DKK 493.6 billion, corresponding to a rise of just under 11 per cent compared with the month before. The increase in activity was particularly pronounced on the mortgage credit market. The total bond turnover over the first five months is 39 per cent higher compared with the same period in 2002.

The most active government bond was 5% INK 2013 with a trading volume of DKK 37.2 billion. The star performer on the mortgage credit market was Realkredit Danmarks 5% 23D s. with expiry in 2035 with a turnover of DKK 26.0 billion.
