Copenhagen Stock Exchange: Bond Trading In The First 11 Months Of 2003 Exceeded The Total Turnover In 2002

In the first 11 months of the year, turnover on the bond market exceeded the total turnover in 2002. Until end-November, the turnover thus came to nearly DKK 6.000 billion, which is approx. DKK 87 billion more than the total turnover in 2002. In November, the turnover reached more than DKK 512 billion, a 3 per cent increase on the month before.

In the period from August to November 2003, the number of trades on the equity market increased significantly, and as a result the number of trades effected in the first 11 months of the year exceeded the total number of trades in 2002. In November, the average daily trading volume came to 9,834 trades, which is more than 11 per cent higher than in the month of October. In comparison with the period from January to November 2002, the number of share trades is 23 per cent higher in 2003.

The increasing share turnover in the past months has also meant that the turnover in the first 11 months of the year is more than 3 per cent higher compared with the same period in 2002. The November turnover amounted to DKK 40.6 billion, of which the KFX shares accounted for DKK 36.9 billion, whereas trading in the MidCap+ and SmallCap+ shares came to DKK 1.9 billion and DKK 0.5 billion, respectively.

The turnover in the investment funds listed on the stock market also progressed during the past few months, and turnover in the first 11 months of the year is a near 6 per cent higher compared with the same period a year earlier. In November, the turnover thus reached DKK 3.0 billion. In November, turnover on the XtraMarked - the market for non-stock exchange listed investment funds - totalled DKK 2.8 billion, a decline of some 30 per cent. Compared with the month before, the turnover figures in investment funds listed on the stock market and the XtraMarked are a respective 104 per cent and 44 per cent higher.

The number of contracts traded on the derivatives market in November reached 48,471 of which 41.300 were futures contracts, and 7,171 were option contracts. In the aggregate, turnover in the first 11 months of the year is 43 per cent higher compared with the same period last year.
