Confirmation Of FTSE UK Indices Review

Five companies have last night been confirmed as new constituents of the FTSE 100 index, following a regular quarterly review by the independent practitioner committee.

Smiths Group PLC, Associated British Foods PLC, Autonomy Corporation PLC, Rolls- Royce PLC and Safeway PLC will become new constituents of the benchmark UK index at the close of business on Friday 15 December 2000.

Companies set to leave the index on the same day are Baltimore Technologies, EMAP PLC, Sema PLC, P&O Princess Cruises PLC, and Bookham Technologies PLC which all move to the FTSE 250.

The FTSE Committee also announced a reserve list of six stocks. This list will be used to fill any vacancies created in the index as a result of corporate actions before the next scheduled review date. These companies are Scottish and Newcastle PLC, Hanson PLC, Enterprise Oil PLC, Smith and Nephew PLC, Matalan PLC, and Morrison (Wm.) Supermarkets PLC.

The Committee also announced details of changes to other UK indices, including the FTSE 250, FTSE Small Cap, FTSE Fledgling, FTSE techMARK 100 and FTSE All-Share. Full details of these changes can be found at http://www.ftse.com
