Companies listed on the Market for Alternative Investment (mai), under The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) group, reported a 33 percent increase in net profit to THB 1.5 billion (approx. USD 48.5 million) in the third quarter of 2012, while net profits and sales also grew strongly in the first nine months.
There were 61 firms, representing 78 percent of mai-listed companies, reporting net profits. Despite higher selling costs, sales and profits of mai-listed firms were still growing and companies could maintain gross profit margins of 20.28 percent compared with the same period of last year.
“Although the mai index has dropped 3.64 percent since early this month until November 16, the results still represented the longer-term strengths of mai-listed firms, and the five highest weighting stocks in the mai index also show improved performance, said mai President Chanitr Charnchainarong.
The 78 mai-listed companies posted a 9.03 percent rise in sales to THB 24.76 billion.
For January-September, companies reported a net profit of THB 4.21 billion (USD 136 million), up 20.76 percent from a year earlier, and sales rose 15.36 percent year-on-year to THB 72.48 billion.
"Nineteen firms have made continuous profits over the last eight quarters since listing on mai, reflecting their capabilities of adaptation and management. For the third quarter, the top three performers in sales in the third quarter were Energy Earth pcl (EARTH), posting THB 2.79 billion; TRC Construction pcl (TRC), reporting THB 1.26 billion; and Asia Green Energy pcl (AGE), showing THB 1.07 billion. The top three earners were EARTH, with a THB 325 million net profit; Brooker Group pcl (BROOK), with THB 131 million; and TRC with THB 86 million," Chanitr said.
Currently, there are 79 mai-listed firms. As of November 19, 2012, the mai index closed at 373.66 points, rising 41.41 percent since the start of this year, with a total market capitalization of THB 115.74 billion (USD 3.73 billion) and daily average trading volume of THB 1.02 billion, touching the one billion baht mark for the first time.
