Leaders of securities firms, regulatory groups, and the capital markets this week headline the Securities Industry Association’s 33rd annual meeting, “Commitment To Clarity: United And Connected.” The program runs from Wednesday, November 3, through Friday, November 5, at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, Florida.

“The securities industry made significant strides in improving investor-protection measures this year. We endorsed and supported the Securities and Exchange Commission’s numerous mutual-fund rules that provide investors with greater clarity on fees and services related to their investment decisions. We worked with the Commission on its efforts to modernize the rules related to the structure of the national markets,” said SIA Chairman Richard E. Thornburgh, vice chairman of the Executive Board of Credit Suisse First Boston and a member of the Executive Board of Credit Suisse Group. “The industry also saw our tax-reform efforts with the Administration and Congress come to fruition for investors, as more companies declared new or higher dividends, providing investors with more incentives to save and invest.”

The meeting begins with Wednesday evening’s welcome dinner (November 3), with opening remarks by Thornburgh. He will then distribute the SIA Distinguished Leadership Awards to individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and service to the industry. The annual SIA Diversity Leadership Award will also be announced during the meeting.

Thornburgh and Marc E. Lackritz, SIA’s president, will begin the meeting on Thursday morning, November 4, by reviewing the opportunities ahead for the industry.
