Combined trading volume in equity index futures and options on futures totaled a record 591,395 contracts, surpassing the previous record set on Sept. 19 with 574,869. contracts. Trading volume in E-mini S&P 500 futures rose to a record 351,673 contracts, exceeding the previous record of 347,314 also set on Sept. 19.
Electronic trading volume on GLOBEX in 2001 reached 81.9 million contracts, a more than 137 percent increase over 2000. GLOBEX volume represented 20 percent of CME's total volume for 2001.
