CME's E-mini Equity Index Contracts Set New Volume, Open Interest Records

Trading volume in the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's (CME) E-mini S&P 500 Stock Price Index and open interest in the E-mini Nasdaq 100 Index futures contracts both rose to record levels yesterday, May 10.

The new volume record for E-mini S&P 500 futures totalled 95,750, surpassing the 95,447 mark set on April 4. For E-mini Nasdaq 100 futures, the new open interest record now stands at 23,184 and bests the previous record of 21,527 on May 8.

Traded electronically on the CME's GLOBEX®2 electronic trading system, both contracts are smaller-sized versions of contracts traded actively via open outcry on the exchange's trading floor. These contracts trade virtually around the clock from 3:45 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. the following day.
