CME Volume In September Rises 9.2 Percent Year-to-Date As Equity Index Volume Sets All-Time Record - Electronic GLOBEX®2 Volume Of 23.2 Million Increases 103.7 Year-to-Date

Trading volume on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) rose 9.2 percent year-to date through September, as trading volume in equity index products set a new all-time monthly volume record of 6.2 million contracts. September's total of 19.2 million contracts surpassed previous month figures by 22.8 percent and previous year volume by 6.3 percent.

Volume traded electronically on the GLOBEX®2 system rose 103.8 percent year-to-date, totaling 23,176,921 contracts. For the month of September, volume of 3,324,460 is 100.3 percent higher than year-ago levels.

E-mini S&P 500 futures set a new all-time monthly volume record of 1.8 million contracts, as did E-mini Nasdaq 100 index futures contracts, which totaled 1.2 million contracts-further cementing their position as the fastest growing products in exchange history. Standard-sized Nasdaq 100 futures contracts reached a new volume high for any September, at 445,334, as did options at 72,437. Russell 2000 futures set a new September mark at 56,848 along with S&P/BARRA Value Index futures at 6,266. FORTUNE e-50™ Index futures, launched on Sept. 5, reached volume of 8,320 contracts.

Also setting an all-time monthly volume record were Euro FX currency futures and options, with 486,283 and 40,733 contracts changing hands, respectively.

Open interest, or the number of contracts outstanding at the close of trading, stood at 6,857,321 at month's end.
