CME Posts Record Globex® Electronic Volume As E-Mini S&P 500, E-Mini Nasdaq-100 Futures Set Volume Records

Trading volume on GLOBEX®, the electronic trading platform of Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME), posted a new record yesterday, with 672,931 contracts traded. This record surpasses the previous record of 652,220 contracts set on Jan. 30.

Also yesterday, trading volume in E-mini S&P 500 futures rose to a record 366,190 contracts, exceeding the previous record of 356,823 set on Feb. 22. E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures posted a record yesterday at 247,917 contracts, surpassing the previous record set on Oct. 17, 2001, when 240,846 contracts were traded.

Combined trading volume in stock index futures and options on futures totaled a record 619,209 contracts, surpassing the previous record set on Jan. 30 with 591,395 contracts.

GLOBEX volume rose 137 percent in 2001 to a record 81.9 million contracts and averaged 324,979 contracts a day.
