CME Group Announces Record Light Sweet Crude Oil (WTI) Futures And Options Trading Volume

CME Group, the world's leading and most diverse derivatives marketplace, today announced it reached a trading volume record for combined NYMEX WTI futures and options yesterday, December 8, of 1,841,295 contracts compared to the previous record of 1,772,232 contracts onAugust 31, 2015.           

Additionally, WTI futures set a trading volume record of 1,595,710 contracts on December 8 versus the previous record of 1,472,088 contracts set on January 28, 2011.

"These recent volume records show that market participants see the value in turning to CME Group's liquid, electronic markets to manage their risk during times of heightened volatility," said Peter Keavey, CME GroupExecutive Director of Energy Products. "CME Group is becoming the first choice for our customers' global crude oil risk management needs, and we've seen that over the course of the year with 15 of the top 20 record trading days in WTI futures taking place in 2015."

NYMEX Light Sweet Crude Oil futures and options contracts are listed by and subject to the rules of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
