CME Equity Index Products Set New January Record

Trading volume in equity index products on the Chicago Mercantile (CME) set a new January record last month, with 3.2 million contracts traded. E-Mini S&P 500 futures, setting an all-time monthly record of 602,793 were the third most active futures contract traded on the CME in January. Brazilian real futures set an all-time monthly mark at 26,440, as did BFP milk futures, at 5,373 contracts. Overall volume for the period totalled 15.5 million contracts. The average 814,073 contracts traded daily represent a 15.5 percent increase over the previous month's average. GLOBEX®2 electronically traded volume of 1,073,986 in January represents a 52.6 increase over January 1998 levels.
