CME E-mini S&P 500<SUP><SMALL>®</SUP></SMALL> Futures Contract Tops 950,000 In Open Interest

Open interest in E-miniTM S&P 500® futures traded on Chicago Mercantile Exchange's (CME's) GLOBEX® electronic trading platform surpassed 950,000 positions for the first time yesterday, June 16, with 958,338 positions, up from the June 13 record of 936,552 positions. In addition, S&P 500 futures posted three consecutive days of record open interest beginning on June 12 with 737,097 positions and reaching 755,218 positions on June 16.

E-mini Russell 2000® futures also set an open interest record with 44,434 positions, surpassing the previous record of 44,008 set on March 21. And, Russell 1000® futures posted record open interest with 1,798 positions, up from the June 12 record of 1,778 positions.

Open interest is a widely recognized indicator of the level of customer interest in an exchange's products. It represents the number of futures and options on futures contracts outstanding at the close of trading each day. CME has the largest futures and options on futures open interest of any exchange in the world.
