Global law firm Clifford Chance has won the inaugural FOW (Futures and Options World) Award for Derivatives Law Firm of the Year at the FOW Awards 2007 last week.
The FOW Awards recognise both organisations and individuals that have made a substantial contribution to the development of the global derivatives market over the past year.
This award was selected by a panel of approximately 40 judges, from a shortlist of 7 law firms. The judging panel comprised market participants from a cross-section of the derivatives industry (including banks, law firms, brokages, regulators).
In particular the firm's work on MiFID Connect (Markets in Financial Instruments Directive), which is led by partners Nick O'Neill and Dermot Turing, was specifically recognised.
Clifford Chance has one of the largest derivatives teams in the industry, with over 200 lawyers across the world. The derivatives practice is unique in integrating: regulatory work; general advisory and infrastructure work; and all of exchange traded, OTC and securities based products, in one group. The team was represented by partner Tim Plews, who accepted the award on their behalf.
London head of derivatives, Habib Motani comments: "We are delighted to have won this prestigious award that recognises the immense contribution of our derivatives team both in supporting individual clients in their respective businesses and in supporting the industry in shaping the future of the derivatives market".
