The Paris court Le Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris has ordered damages to be paid to Clearstream by the author Denis Robert and publisher Les Arènes of the book Revelations as well as the French TV company Canal+ France. The court did not find evidence to support allegations against Clearstream that were published in this book and a TV program in 2001. Defendants were judged to have failed in their attempts to proof all allegations; the Court rejected the evidence and witness statements provided by Regis Hempel and Ernest Backes.
In fact the Court ordered the final judgment to be printed in two newspapers with an insertion explaining the defamatory nature of the material.
Following the decision of the Tribunal de Grande Instance Paris on March 29 2004, Clearstream stated this judgment proved the company's position that all allegations made were false and groundless. Clearstream therefore has successfully completed this legal process against the parties involved in publishing the false allegations against Clearstream dating back to February 2001.
