CISI Launches Global Financial Compliance Qualification At Its Compliance Professionals Summit

Date 11/10/2011

Ruth Martin, Managing Director of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) will today announce the launch of the CISI’s new Global Financial Compliance qualification (GFC) at the CISI annual Compliance Professionals Summit in London.

The qualification is a comprehensive global introduction to all the issues a global compliance officer may encounter. It provides a sound grounding in:

  • The international regulatory environment
  • The compliance function
  • Managing the risk of financial crime
  • Ethics, integrity and fairness
  • Governance, risk management and compliance

The CISI Global Financial Compliance qualification has been developed to provide candidates with a broad understanding of the compliance issues that arise within the financial services industry and is particularly aimed at compliance officers and all compliance staff.

The GFC coves all key aspects of compliance and is globally portable, being available at any of the CISI’s computer based test centres located worldwide. The qualification provides candidates with a clear benchmark to demonstrate that they have acquired the necessary knowledge to carry out their job roles competently.

The qualification has been developed with input from expert practitioners from leading global financial firms, including Standard Chartered Bank. Francesca Brown, Senior Compliance Manager from Standard Chartered said: "International organisations require a joined-up compliance methodology and a practical approach to the challenges of cross-boarder regulation. This qualification helps to address these requirements. "

Ruth Martin, CISI MD said: "A successful compliance function is a fundamental requirement for any effective business. In financial services it is a critical component. We believe that the skills and knowledge that an individual acquires through this qualification can further the industry’s efforts to build trust and confidence in the sector globally."

The GFC can be taken as a stand-alone award. It can also be taken with either the CISI’s FSA Financial Regulation unit, Principles of Financial Regulation or a local regulatory paper (for international candidates). Upon successful completion of the Global Financial Compliance qualification with one of these regulatory papers, candidates will be awarded the Certificate in Global Financial Compliance.

Formal training is available through CISI accredited training providers (ATPs). In addition to, or instead of, formal training, candidates can choose the self-study route. The CISI publishes a workbook for this exam. Recommended study time for the two-hour Global Financial Compliance paper is 100 hours and for the FSA Financial Regulation/Principles of Financial Regulation exams it is 80 hours.
