Chicago Stock Exchange: September Volume Results For This Most Difficult Month

The Chicago Stock Exchange's (CHX) total share volume decreased 8 percent and total trade volume decreased by 35 percent from September 2000. OTC share volume decreased by 27 percent, while OTC trade volume decreased by 61 percent from a year ago.

CHX President and CEO A.D. Frazier stated, "This has been the most difficult month in the modern history of the markets. We take great comfort in the way in which the industry has united in cooperation after the events of September 11. And as we go forward in our efforts, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims and their families."

Share volume in September 2001 was 2,040,310,157 compared to 2,212,518,801 in September 2000, a decrease of 7.78%. Trade volume in September 2001 was 3,299,154 compared to 5,059,903 in September 2000, a fall of 34.80%.

OTC Share volume in September 2001 was 714,938,397 compared to 981,417,889 in September 2000, a fall of 27.15%. OTC Trade volume in September 2001 was 1,127,883 compared to 2,871,503 in September 2000, a fall of 60.72%.
