CME approved the establishment of a charitable foundation and authorized $1 million to be directed toward the relief of persons affected by the devastating attacks in New York and Washington on Sept. 11. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange Foundation was incorporated this week and will begin accepting additional donations from CME shareholders, members and staff today through Wednesday outside its trading floors. Among the organizations the CME Foundation will support will be the Chicago Remembers Fund, American Red Cross, New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund, WTC Police Disaster Relief Fund, New York Times 9/11 Neediest Fund and Armed Services YMCA. Donations will be divided among the six organizations listed above, or donors may recommend which of the six charities they would like to receive their contributions. The CME community also can mail in checks payable to CME Foundation. Questions may be directed to Kristin Wood, Manager, Corporate Relations, at + 1 312/930-4510.
